What is NIR  ?

Near infrared light (NIR) is an electromagnetic wave between visible light (VI.S) and mid-infrared light (MIR), according to ASTM (American Association for Testing and Materials Testing) definition refers to electromagnetic waves with wavelengths in the range of 780~2526nm, and customarily divided into near-infrared short wave (780~1100nm) and near-infrared long-wave (1100~2526nm) two regions.

Near-infrared spectrum belongs to the frequency doubling and main frequency absorption spectrum of molecular vibration spectrum, which is mainly generated when molecular vibration transitions from the ground state to high energy level due to the non-resonance of molecular vibration, and has strong penetration ability. NIR light is mainly the frequency doubling and combined absorption of hydrogen-containing group X-H (X=C, N, O) vibration, which contains information on the composition and molecular structure of most types of organic compounds. Since different organic compounds contain different groups, different groups have different energy levels, different groups and the same group have obvious differences in the absorption wavelength of near-infrared light in different physical and chemical environments, and the absorption coefficient is small and the heat generation is less, so near-infrared spectroscopy can be used as an effective carrier to obtain information. When near-infrared light is irradiated, the light and groups of the same frequency will resonate, and the energy of the light will be transferred to the molecule through the change of the dipole moment of the molecule; The frequency of near-infrared light is not the same as the vibration frequency of the sample, and infrared light at this frequency will not be absorbed. Therefore, when using near-infrared light that continuously changes the frequency to irradiate a sample, due to the selective absorption of near-infrared light of different frequencies by the sample, it is passed .
